ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday discussed progress on the Framework Agreement for the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Project with his Uzbek counterpart Bakhtiyor Saidov.

Both leaders, during a phone conversation, also agreed to meet again on the sidelines of the upcoming SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Tianjin, China, a Foreign Office statement said.

In April this year, Ishaq Dar said the three countries would soon sign the framework agreement for the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Line Project.

Regional connectivity

The Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan Railway Project is an extensive project undertaking with the objective of creating a direct railway link between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, passing through Afghanistan’s territory.

Cargo delivery time

This project aims to enhance trade and logistics efficiency by establishing a rail connection that would connect Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, to Kabul and Peshawar, the capitals of Afghanistan and a provincial capital of Pakistan, respectively.

It also aims to significantly reduce cargo delivery times between Uzbekistan and Pakistan by approximately five days.
