ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday expressed the hope that the respective three countries would soon sign the framework agreement for the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Line Project.
The project was discussed during a telephonic discussion between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
The deputy prime minister shared with Uzbekistan’s foreign minister his recent discussions in Kabul regarding the project and hoped that the three countries would soon sign the framework agreement for this important regional connectivity project.
Regional connectivity
“Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar @MIshaqDar50 held a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich @FM_Saidov. DPM shared with him his recent discussions in Kabul regarding the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Line Project and hoped that the three countries would soon sign the framework agreement for this important regional connectivity project,” the press release said.
Both leaders also discussed strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing economic and trade connectivity, promoting people-to-people ties, and exchanged views on current regional and international issues, the statement said.
The Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan Railway Project is an extensive project undertaking with the objective of creating a direct railway link between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, passing through Afghanistan’s territory.
Cargo delivery time
This project aims to enhance trade and logistics efficiency by establishing a rail connection that would connect Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, to Kabul and Peshawar, the capitals of Afghanistan and a provincial capital of Pakistan, respectively.
It also aims to significantly reduce cargo delivery times between Uzbekistan and Pakistan by approximately five days.
