Pakistan, Uzbek Leaders Vow to Promote Economic Integration

NEW YORK: Pakistan’s interim Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev have reiterated their resolve to further promote regional economic integration, local media reported on Wednesday.

The two sides also expressed determination to play an active role in the regional connectivity. The two leaders held a meeting on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Pakistan’s PM Office Media Wing said in a press statement.

They also discussed ways to further deepen bilateral ties and cooperation in trade, security, defence, economy, and connectivity sectors. Kakar, while expressing satisfaction at the growing level of bilateral cooperation between the two sides in the last several years, stressed the significance of sustaining the momentum. Prime Minister Kakar also underscored that the operationalization of the Preferential Trade Agreement and Transit Trade Agreement would also boost trade and transit between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

Prime Minister Kakar re-affirmed Islamabad’s strong resolve to timely completion of the Trans-Afghan railway project. The Prime Minister noted that regional connectivity and economic and trade integration would have a stabilizing impact on Afghanistan as well.

The two leaders also discussed the recent regional developments in security and stability during the meeting.
