The meeting between Baker and Abbasi comes amid deepening ties between Washington and Islamabad, ever since US President Donald Trump brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan on May 10.
In September, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with US President Donald Trump at the White House’s Oval Office. During the meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest as well as regional and global developments.
Pakistan and the US also share a longstanding partnership in counter-terrorism, built on intelligence sharing, joint operations, and regional security cooperation.
