Pakistan, US Hold Joint Naval Drill in Indian Ocean

ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Shamsheer and United States Ship (USS) Fitzgerald have conducted a joint exercise in the North Indian Ocean to strengthen maritime cooperation, Pakistan Navy said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Pakistan Navy said the exercise featured a series of professional naval engagements aimed at enhancing interoperability.

“These interactions reaffirm the shared commitment of both navies to maritime security and regional stability,” it said.

The Pakistan and US navies share a longstanding history of maritime cooperation through joint exercises, bilateral training, and participation in multinational operations such as AMAN and CTF-150.

These collaborations have emphasised maritime security and coordinated responses to regional threats, underscoring a strategic partnership aimed at promoting stability in the Arabian Sea.

“PNS Shamsheer and USS Fitzgerald conducted a passage exercise in the North Indian Ocean, underscoring the maritime cooperation between the two navies,” the Pakistan Navy said in a post on X.

The joint naval drill between Pakistan and the United States comes as both nations work to rejuvenate their political and economic ties.

The exercise is part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to enhance naval partnerships and reinforce its presence in the region.
