ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome said on Thursday that exemplary cooperation in health sector between the two nations would be further strengthened.
in a meeting with Caretaker Federal Minister for Health Dr. Nadeem Jan, he affirmed the United States’ commitment to support health sector in diverse areas in Pakistan, including nutrition, control of infectious diseases, maternal and newborn health, and family planning.
The meeting discussed cooperation in different contexts of initial two rounds of Pak-US Health Dialogue and resolved to continue further collaboration.
The envoy termed the cooperation between the Ministry of National Health Services and the US government exemplary.
On his part, Dr. Nadeem Jan expressed gratitude for the American government’s support in the health sector.
He said that the US support has been robust, uninterrupted and purpose-driven.
The minister appreciated the continued support of US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Centers for Disease Control.
Global Health Security Summit in Pakistan
Dr. Nadeem Jan shared the purpose and intent of Pakistan organizing the first Global Health Security Summit.
He said that the summit’s agenda was that the world should be prepared before a pandemic strike. Representatives of countries from all parts of the world were being invited to the summit, he added.
The minister further said that the importance of health diplomacy in this age could not be over emphasized.
Dr. Nadeem said that he believes that diseases have no borders nor do viruses discriminate between nationalities and races, hence there is a need to forge a unified stand against them.
The minister said that Pakistan is looking forward to strengthen the government-to-government cooperation with the US and he firmly believed in productive partnership for the benefit of the people.
