Baker said long-term energy supply agreements could benefit both countries and stressed the importance of creating business opportunities for American companies in Pakistan.
Managing directors of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) briefed the meeting on the interest shown by American companies in supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Pakistan normally receives an average of nine LNG cargoes a month from Qatar under long-term agreements. Long-term agreements can provide greater supply certainty.
Minister Malik apprised the US diplomat of Pakistan’s measures to safeguard its energy requirements and ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies. Baker commended Pakistan for effectively managing the fuel supply situation.
The petroleum minister said Pakistan remained committed to securing its energy needs and that teams from both countries were exploring new avenues for cooperation in the sector.
He said projects aimed at upgrading Pakistan’s refineries could provide investment opportunities for American financial institutions, potentially strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
Malik also invited American companies to participate in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2026 (PMIF26), highlighting the investment potential of Pakistan’s minerals sector.
He said enhanced cooperation with the United States and stronger bilateral ties would help bolster Pakistan’s long-term energy security and support sustained collaboration between the two countries. He also thanked the US for its cooperation in the energy sector.
