SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt:  Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday emphasised the importance of continued international engagement and humanitarian support for the people of Palestine.

Deputy PM Dar made the remarks during an informal meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at the margins of the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh city, a Foreign Office statement said.

Ishaq Dar appreciated the role of the United States and Turkiye in supporting efforts that led to the ceasefire and in advancing the shared goal of lasting peace & stability in the region.

He stressed the importance of continued international engagement and humanitarian support for the people of Palestine, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a just and durable resolution of the Palestinian cause.

The summit, co-chaired by President Trump and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, brought together leaders and top officials from over 20 countries and global organisations — including the United Nations, European Union, and Arab League — to endorse a peace agreement described by Egypt’s foreign ministry as a “historic document ending the war in the Gaza Strip.”

Two years of Israeli bombardment in Gaza have killed more than 67,869 people, according to Palestinian health authorities, with the toll continuing to rise as more bodies are recovered.

Earlier, Ishaq Dar met with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty where both leaders exchanged views on the urgent need for peace, stability, and humanitarian relief in Gaza and Palestine.

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked Egypt for hosting the Gaza Peace Summit and for its vital diplomatic efforts toward de-escalation and regional stability.

He also held a meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine and reaffirmed Pakistan’s and the people of Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and for the people of Gaza.

Welcoming the ceasefire in Gaza, Ishaq Dar underscored the importance of ensuring sustained humanitarian aid, reconstruction, and the revival of a credible peace process leading to a just and lasting settlement based on the two-state solution, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital of Palestine.
