UNITED NATIONS: The International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) set of steps on Palestine’s case represents an important contribution towards the resolution of the conflict, a top Pakistani diplomat told the UNGA, emphasizing that those measures must also be applied to the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
“The role of the international court has become even more and more indispensable today,” Ambassador Munir Akram stated in his remarks in a debate on the work of the World Court, while also highlighting the threats to world peace and security and violations of the UN Charter and its principles – particularly that the use of unilateral force – have multiplied.

“Many people, especially the people of Palestine and occupied Kashmir, continue to be subjected to colonial and foreign occupation and denied their right to self-determination,” the Pakistani Ambassador said, noting that war crimes and crimes against humanity and genocide are being committed, with impunity, by various rogue States.
While the UNSC is virtually paralyzed by the frequent use of veto power by some of the UNSC permanent members, he stated, the ICJ has also played a prominent role in upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter and global law. He further added that justice is a critical component for the preservation of world order.
