ISLAMABAD: Pakistan squad has landed home without a medal but the lesson learned were priceless at the World University Games held at Chengdu, China.
The team from Higher Education Commission comprised five university students who competed against 3000 women athletes representing over a 100 countries.
Amtul Rehman, Uzma Azam, Manisha Ali, Maliha Ali and Fizza formed the squad and were selected on merit as they all won a gold medal in the recently held National Games in Quetta.
Amtul Rehman from Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) competed in long jump and triple jump events, Uzma Azam of Government College Women University Faisalabad competed in hammer throw, Lahore Garrison University’s twin sisters Manisha and Maliha contested in taekwondo, while Fizza took part in wushu.
None of the athletes made it to the next round in their respective disciplines.
“The learning was immense and we now know where we should focus,” said on the athletes adding, “There are number of grey areas and with time Pakistan will progress.”
