ISLAMABAD: An international conference on a ‘Climate-Resilient Pakistan’ will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, on 9th January next year to rally support for stronger reconstruction efforts in Pakistan following recent catastrophic floods due to climate change.
This was revealed by the Spokesperson of the Foreign Office of Pakistan, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch at her weekly news briefing in Islamabad today (Thursday). Mumtaz Zahra said that Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif and UN Secretary General Antonio Guetteres will co-chair the international conference on climate-resilient Pakistan.

The Spokesperson said in her news briefing that the framework for reconstruction, rehabilitation, recovery, and resilience will be presented by Pakistan and will be based on the post-disaster needs assessment that was started in October of this year to calculate the damages caused flood in Pakistan.
Climate Resilient Pakistan and COP 27
It is pertinent to note that Global Climate Change Conference under the framework of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) also known as Conference of Parties (COP 27) held its annual meeting of world nations on climate change.

Climate Resilient Pakistan International conference traces its roots from COP 27 held in the city of Sharm-ul-Sheikh in Egypt, the countries agreed and stressed on developed nations to make climate change fund for the developing countries. It is said in COP 27 that the developed world is enhancing the climate degradation and the developing countries are facing the effects of climate change. So, the developed and rich countries should compensate the poor nations through climate financing.
Climate Resilient Pakistan conference significance
The spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra said that climate resilient Pakistan conference will engage and attract the global community to attract the international support towards rebuilding and reconstruction the damages caused by the recent devastating floods in Pakistan.
It will be an opportunity to discuss supportive arrangements for the recovery processes as well as engage in an academic discussion on climate adaptation and resilience.
An invitation letter to this meeting has been sent by the UN Secretary General and the Prime Minister to donor nations, international financial institutions, and other development partners.
