Pakistan, UK to Bolster Healthcare Collaboration

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the UK have agreed to strengthen collaboration in the healthcare sector. British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, met with Caretaker Minister for Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan, to discuss healthcare-related matters.

Both sides have decided to enhance cooperation in healthcare and address various challenges in the field.

Dr. Nadeem Jan expressed gratitude for the UK’s ongoing support in various healthcare areas, including disaster relief and polio eradication. The discussions also covered healthcare, climate change, and population issues.

Dr. Nadeem Jan emphasized the importance of a robust healthcare system and inter-provincial coordination. He highlighted the significant potential in Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector and the need to promote indigenous medicine manufacturing.

Dr. Nadeem Jan stressed the importance of technology transfer to boost vaccine manufacturing capacity and advocated for vaccine equity, particularly for low and middle-income countries.

He mentioned Pakistan’s upcoming Global Health Security Summit, demonstrating the country’s commitment to global health security.

UK-Pakistan Partnership in Healthcare

The British High Commissioner highlighted the longstanding UK-Pakistan partnership, with UKAID playing a central role in healthcare and education collaborations. She invited the minister to attend the International Food Security Summit in the UK, focusing on nutrition, which he accepted.

The High Commissioner received a briefing on Pakistan’s Infectious Diseases Management Information System (IDMIS), the country’s first Unified Health Management System for infectious diseases.
