ISLAMABAD: UK High Commissioner Jane Marriott called on Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral relations, with both sides appreciating frequent exchanges between Pakistan and the UK, according to a Foreign Office statement.

During the meeting, regional issues and current international developments were also discussed.

Pakistan and the United Kingdom share a long-standing relationship rooted in history, diplomacy, trade, education, and people-to-people links.

The UK is one of Pakistan’s major European partners, with strong political, economic, and cultural engagement at both government and civil society levels. Recent high-level dialogues and institutional cooperation demonstrate ongoing efforts to strengthen these ties.

British companies operate across sectors in Pakistan, and both governments continue discussions to deepen economic cooperation and enhance business engagement.

More than 1.4–1.6 million people of Pakistani origin live in the UK, forming one of the largest South Asian diaspora communities there.

These connections support cultural exchange, remittances, and bilateral engagement beyond official channels.

Pakistan and the UK engage on regional security issues and crises, including diplomatic efforts around South Asian peace processes.

The UK government, British Council, and UK development agencies support a wide range of programmes across sectors, including education, governance, human development, economic reform, and climate resilience.

Pakistan International Airlines has announced the resumption of direct flights from Lahore to London after a six-year hiatus, with the first flight scheduled to depart on March 30.

In December 2025, Pakistan and the United Kingdom (UK) formalized a comprehensive climate partnership with the launch of a Green Compact that aims to enhance climate resilience, accelerate clean energy transition and scale up nature-based solutions, including mangrove conservation.
