Pakistan, UAE Ink MoU for Promotion of Date Palm Cultivation

ABU DHABI: Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing agricultural innovation and research pertaining to the advancement and promotion of date palm cultivation and the related industry.

Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi of Pakistan to the UAE and General Secretary Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Prof. of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, signed the memorandum.

The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence of the UAE, as confirmed by Pakistan’s embassy in the UAE. The memorandum aims to enhance cooperation between the two nations. It offers an opportunity for Pakistani farmers to expand date palm cultivation, leveraging innovative approaches.

Given the UAE’s expertise in this field, the agreement will facilitate technological assistance to Pakistan, capitalizing on the country’s abundant resources suitable for date palm cultivation. Additionally, the memorandum includes plans for the inaugural International Date Palm Festival 2024 in Pakistan.

Pakistan and the UAE maintain a strong fraternal relationship, collaborating across various sectors such as politics, economics, agriculture, culture, energy, and defense, to mutual benefit. —APP
