ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkiye have pledged to deepen bilateral defence and military cooperation, a military statement said on Friday.

According to the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, Chief of the Turkish General Staff, called on Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

“During the meeting, besides dilating upon matters of mutual interest, prevailing regional and global security landscape, and prospects for strengthening bilateral defence and military cooperation were also discussed,” ISPR said.

They expressed satisfaction on current trajectory of Pakistan-Türkiye ties while underscoring the requirement of maintaining close coordination and enhancing defence collaboration.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir underscored the longstanding brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Turkey, rooted in shared history, mutual trust, and strong people-to-people ties.

He expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation extended by the Turkish Armed Forces and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral military-to-military relations.

ISPR said General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu thanked his hosts for the warm reception and commended the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He reiterated Turkiye’s commitment to deepening defence cooperation, including through training programs, joint exercises, and capacity-building initiatives.

Earlier, the Turkish General was presented with the guard of honour by a smartly turned contingent of the Pakistan Armed Forces upon his arrival at the General Headquarters.

“The visit reflects the enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and Turkiye and their shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and security,” the ISPR statement said.

Pakistan and Turkiye have strengthened their ties following Ankara’s public support for Islamabad during its four-day conflict with India in May.

Since then, the military forces of the two Muslim-majority countries have committed to enhancing cooperation in defense and trade amid ongoing regional tensions.

In July, 2025, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Minister Güler visited Pakistan for high-level talks with political and military leaders.

The Foreign Office of Pakistan described the visit as a clear indication of “deepening strategic ties” with Ankara, noting that discussions focused on regional stability, trade expansion, and defence modernisation.
