Pakistan, Turkiye Vow to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation in Areas of Mutual Interest

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkiye have pledged to further deepen cooperation across trade, defence, energy, and other areas of mutual interest during the official visit of Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler to Islamabad, Pakistan’s foreign ministry stated on Wednesday.

Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler undertook an official visit to Pakistan from 8–10 September.

According to a statement issued by the foreign ministry, leading a Turkish delegation, Güler attended the 16th Session of the Pakistan-Turkiye Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC).

During the visit, Minister Güler also called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and held meetings with Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir during his 3-day visit.

In a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the two sides shared their commitment to further deepen the bilateral cooperation between the brotherly countries in all areas of mutual interest.

The prime minister emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye in key sectors such as trade and investment, joint research and development, information technology, agriculture, energy, education, and cultural exchange.

During Minister Yaşar Güler’s meetings with Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening strategic and defence collaboration.

The 16th Session of the Pakistan–Turkiye Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), co-chaired by Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Minister Güler, served as a platform to follow up on the agenda set by the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC).

Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in a wide range of areas, including trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, IT, e-commerce, connectivity and transport, energy, education, mining, agriculture, media, and tourism.

The visit provided an opportunity to take stock of the wide range of bilateral collaboration between the two countries. Both sides remain committed to transforming their fraternal ties into a multifaceted partnership.
