Pakistan, Turkiye Discuss Emerging Geo-Political Trends, Security Issues

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkiye on Thursday discussed emerging geo-political trends, including global and regional security issues.

The inaugural meeting of the Pakistan-Turkiye Joint Standing Committee (JSC) on Security, Defence and Intelligence was held in Islamabad, a foreign office statement said.

The Turkish delegation was led by Director General for South Asia, Ambassador Cihad Erginay, and the Pakistani side was headed by Additional Secretary (Afghanistan & West Asia), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Syed Ali Asad Gillani.

Both sides discussed emerging geo-political trends, including global and regional security issues.

The Joint Steering Committee (JSC) on Security, Defence, and Intelligence was established following the 7th Session of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) between Pakistan and Turkiye, held on 12–13 February 2025.

According to the statement, the JSC’s discussions will contribute to preparations for the upcoming Joint Commission meeting, which will be co-chaired by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

Pakistan and Turkiye share a strong, historic, and multi-dimensional partnership grounded in common religious, cultural, and strategic values.

The two nations continue to collaborate closely across a wide range of sectors, including defence, trade, energy, transport, culture, tourism, education, defence industries, agriculture, health, and science and technology.
