ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday met with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the 17th ECO Summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan, and discussed matters of mutual interest.
The two leaders engaged in a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and exchanged views on key regional developments, Pakistan’s state news agency APP reported on Friday.
The two leaders reiterated their resolve and commitment to bringing about meaningful progress in relations between the two countries, in all important sectors. Both leaders emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation in trade, defense, energy, connectivity, and investment sectors.
To this end, the two countries agreed to exchange high-level delegations so as to ensure early finalization of the understandings reached between the two leaders.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to working closely with Turkey in advancing their shared goals of peace, stability, and sustainable development throughout the region.
It may be recalled that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had condemned the heinous terrorist attack in Pakistan on June 28.
In a post in Turkish on the social media platform X, he prayed the Allah Almighty to have mercy on our Pakistani brothers who lost their lives in the attack and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
Erdogan expressed his condolences to the friendly and brotherly people and the government of Pakistan.
He further said Turkey will continue to support its old friend, Pakistan, in its fight against terrorism.
