WASHINGTON: Director of the Communications Department of International Monetary Fund, Julie Kozack, has said Pakistan would receive a total of $ 2.3 billion under Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) following staff level agreements.

Speaking at a media briefing at IMF Headquarters in Washington, she said the IMF Executive Board on 25th September last year, approved a $ 7 billion Extended Fund Facility arrangement for Pakistan spanning over 37 months.

She mentioned that a staff-level agreement on the First Review was reached on March 25th of this year, along with another staff-level agreement on the same day regarding the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).

The IMF Director of the Communications Department stated that under the Extended Fund Facility arrangement, which is part of the First Review under the program, Pakistan will have access to $ 1 billion following formal approval by the IMF’s Executive Board.

Similarly, Pakistan would be disbursed an amount of $ 1.3 billion under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility, following the approval by the IMF’s Executive Board.

It is pertinent to mention that an IMF team, led by Nathan Porter, held discussions with Pakistani officials between February 24 and March 14, 2025, in Karachi and Islamabad. Both sides also held virtual huddles.

According to a statement issued by the IMF, Porter stated after the discussions that “The IMF team has reached a staff-level agreement (SLA) with the Pakistani authorities on the first review of the 37-month Extended Arrangement under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), and on a new 28-month arrangement under the IMF’s RSF with total access over the 28 months of around $1.3 billion.”

IMF targets

Last week, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said that Pakistan is on track to meet the global lender’s economic targets.

The minister stressed that discussions with the IMF are progressing smoothly and that the ongoing talks will conclude soon.

The minister underscored the government’s commitment to economic reforms, adding that Pakistan is adhering to the agreed-upon financial framework.

He went on to say the country remains focused on fiscal responsibility, which will help secure the next tranche of funding.
