ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, Pakistan is all set to host the eagerly-awaited third “D-8 Ministerial Meeting on Tourism Cooperation” on the 4th of next month in the hill station of Murree.

Organized by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), this two-day event marks the first time such a prestigious meeting is being held in the country.

The decision to host the third D-8 Ministerial Meeting was taken during the second D-8 Ministerial Meeting held in Malaysia back in 2019, where Pakistan was selected as the host nation for this year’s event. The upcoming meeting will be preceded by the fourth D-8 Senior Officials meeting adding even more significance to the occasion, according to state media.

Due to the unprecedented challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the meeting, which was originally scheduled for 2021, had to be postponed. However, the organizers have ensured all necessary safety measures and protocols will be in place to safeguard the health and well-being of all participants.

The primary objective of the meeting is to highlight and promote Pakistan’s vast tourism potential while exploring lucrative tourism trade opportunities among the member states. Pakistan boasts a rich tapestry of cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and historical landmarks, making it an ideal destination for travellers seeking unique and unforgettable experiences.

The D-8 (Developing-8) Organization for Economic Cooperation, established in 1997, is an inter-governmental organization comprising eight developing countries as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Egypt, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkiye.
