ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to formulate a National Registration Policy (NRP) aimed at making the process of citizenship registration transparent and foolproof.
The decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the interior minister said that the authenticity of national identity cards and citizenship bears the utmost significance and consensus of all the provinces would have to be sought on this policy.
He said that Union Council is the fundamental tier of NADRA and its access to Union Councils is quite significant in this connection.
Policy to Prevent Illegal Registration of Citizenship
Naqvi further said that the policy will also prevent illegal registration of citizenship.
He said that the plan should be finalized and implemented in the next few days so that the public can be saved from unnecessary rush and fatigue. He also directed the establishment NADRA counters at Khidmat Centers.
The meeting reviewed the plan to increase NADRA centers in 6 major cities of Pakistan and it was decided to include Multan in this plan apart from Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
