ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with China, stressing deeper cooperation in key sectors including trade, investment, agriculture, and industrialisation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi, at the PM House in Islamabad on Thursday, reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for China on its core issues.
He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further deepen its All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with China, as envisioned by the leadership and aspired by the peoples of the two countries, according to a statement issued by the PM House.
Warmly welcoming the Foreign Minister, the Prime Minister expressed heartfelt appreciation for the leadership, government, and people of China for their unwavering support to Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national development.
Prime Minister praises President Xi Jinping’s leadership
The Prime Minister praised President Xi Jinping’s visionary leadership and his instrumental role in reinforcing the ironclad friendship between Pakistan and China. Recalling his warm and productive meeting with President Xi during his visit to Beijing last year, the Prime Minister shared his anticipation for the upcoming visit to Tianjin and Beijing.
There, he is scheduled to attend the SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) meeting, as well as the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance and the World Anti-Fascist War.
PM underscores importance of continued high-level exchanges
The PM expressed eagerness to meet President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and other senior Chinese leaders during the visit, underscoring the importance of continued high-level exchanges in further advancing the strong bilateral relationship.
The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s desire to deepen bilateral cooperation with China in trade, investment, ICT, agriculture, industrialisation, mines and minerals, and other key sectors.
He also stressed the importance of China’s China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for Pakistan’s socio-economic development and its vital role in enhancing regional connectivity, while expressing satisfaction at the steady progress of CPEC Phase-II.

China regards Pakistan as an ironclad friend
Thanking the Prime Minister for his remarks, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China regarded Pakistan as an ironclad friend and all-weather strategic partner.
He expressed China’s desire to elevate bilateral relations with Pakistan to new heights of cooperation and collaboration.
Commending Pakistan’s resolute commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity, he affirmed that China would continue working jointly with Pakistan to promote regional peace, development, and stability.
Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and senior members of the Cabinet were also present on the occasion.
Earlier today, Pakistan and China held the 6th round of Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue, reviewing the entire gamut of Pakistan-China relations and discussing important regional and global issues.
