ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to launch a crackdown on unlicensed pharmacies and illegal medicine sellers in the federal capital Islamabad.

The Quality Control Board of Islamabad has instructed the Drug Control Section to take strict action against pharmacies operating without licensed pharmacists. Additionally, the board has decided to increase surveillance on nutraceutical products to combat the sale of substandard or counterfeit items.

Recently, the board reviewed 20 cases of violations under the Drug Act and has approved prosecution for two of them.

In a related development, a joint operation by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Karachi resulted in the seizure of unregistered and expired foreign medicines. During a raid in Malir, FIA recovered these illicit goods, including shampoos and cosmetics, which were being sold online by Anup Kumar.

Initial findings indicate that Anup Kumar was operating as a supervisor for the online store, with Deepak Kumar, the store’s owner, residing in Dubai.

A case has been filed against both Anup and Deepak Kumar, and efforts are ongoing to locate other suspects involved.
