ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Under-16 will compete in the Davis Cup Juniors Asia Oceania Final Qualifying event, commencing from Monday in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
The team will comprise of Noman ul Haq (captain), Hamza Roman (player) Nadir Reza Mirza (player) and Abubakar Talha (player), a Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) spokesman told on Sunday. Senator Salim Saifullah Khan, President of PTF has expressed his best wishes for the side and emphasised that the development of junior players and their participation in international events was one of the priorities of PTF, despite financial constraints.

The six-day event will be attended by 16 teams divided into four groups. The teams include Kazakhstan, Australia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, India, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam and Uzbekistan.
The top two teams of each group will move to the play-off followed by another contest for an entry to the World Team Championships.
In parallel with Shymkent the qualifiers are being held in other parts of the world. Europe, Africa, South America, Central and North America would host other qualifying competitions to determine the final 16 teams that would compete in the World Championships next year.
Davis Cup Juniors being a premier international team tennis tournament was first held by the International Tennis Federation in 1985 under the name of the Under-16 World Cup.
