ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is preparing to launch its first National Marble Policy, aiming to enhance the country’s marble production capabilities, expand exports, and drive industrial growth.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan, speaking at a briefing, highlighted the economic potential of the marble sector, noting that Pakistan’s marble reserves are among the largest in the world.
He said the upcoming policy will focus on modernising mining operations, implementing quality standards, and promoting investment in downstream processing facilities to improve export competitiveness.
The government plans to offer incentives, including tax breaks, easier licensing procedures, and technical assistance, to encourage marble producers and exporters to upgrade operations and meet international quality benchmarks. Khan emphasised that these measures are expected to boost foreign exchange earnings, create jobs, and support broader industrial growth nationwide.
Industry representatives welcomed the initiative, calling it a long-awaited step to unlock the sector’s full potential. Analysts note that by addressing production inefficiencies and improving quality standards, Pakistan could significantly increase its share of the global marble market.
