ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s air force said it had successfully conducted the flight test of Taimoor, an indigenously developed air-launched cruise missile designed to strike land and sea targets at long range.

According to a statement by the Pakistan Air Force, the missile has a reported range of up to 600 kilometres and carries a conventional warhead. It is equipped with advanced navigation and guidance systems. It is designed to fly at very low altitudes, a feature intended to help it evade enemy air and missile defence systems.

The military described the test as part of efforts to enhance Pakistan’s conventional deterrence and operational flexibility amid evolving regional security dynamics in South Asia.

Senior officers from Pakistan’s armed forces, along with scientists and engineers involved in the programme, observed the test, underscoring what the air force said was growing technical maturity and self-reliance within the country’s defence industry.

Pakistan’s Chief of the Air Staff, Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, congratulated the teams behind the project, saying the successful test reflected the air force’s focus on operational readiness and technological development.

The Pakistan Air Force, one of the largest air arms in the region, has in recent years accelerated modernisation efforts, with an increasing emphasis on domestic weapons development as it seeks to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.
