UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan on Friday termed the collective punishment of Gaza‘s Palestinian people by Israeli Occupation forces unacceptable, adding that it amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Pakistani delegate Rabia Ijaz told the General Assembly’s Sixth (legal) Committee) that major crimes against humanity are being committed in Palestine and in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
A second secretary at the Pakistan Mission to the UN, was speaking in a debate on Crimes against Humanity in which speakers stressed the need for a universal tool on preventing and punishing those crimes in the midst of geopolitical confrontations, including the recent Israeli-Palestinian escalation.
Pakistan concerned at humanitarian situation in Gaza
She said that Pakistan was deeply concerned by the fast-deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza because of the aerial bombing including of civilian and even protected UN installations.
The diplomat said the inhumane blockade of food, fuel and medicines, as collective punishment of the people of Gaza by Israeli Occupation forces, were not acceptable.
Rabia Ijaz added that the recent aggression and violence is a reminder and a direct outcome of over seven decades of illegal Israeli occupation and disrespect for international law, including UNSC resolutions that accept the inalienable right to self-determination of the Palestinian people.

She called upon the international community to work together for a just, comprehensive and lasting two-state solution with sovereign State of Palestine on the basis of pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
She added that peace in the Middle East cannot be achieve without solving the Palestine cause.
Ijaz also underlined the need for global cooperation to end impunity for culprits and ensure justice for victims.
