BEIJING: Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in diverse fields, including trade and investment, connectivity, energy, regional security, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

The consensus was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon in Beijing on Tuesday, Pakistan’s state-media reported.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening Pakistan-Tajikistan relations, which are founded on strong cultural, historical, and religious ties.

They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

PM Sharif took a bullet train from Tianjin, where China hosted the SCO Summit, to Beijing, where he met Chinese President Xi Jinping, along with a delegation.

Beijing is bustling with world leaders as China is all set to hold the Grand Parade tomorrow. Leaders of Pakistan and Central Asian countries are also in the capital as state guests.

Last month, Pakistan-Tajikistan Joint Counter Terrorism Exercise Dosti-ll was conducted at Fakhrobod Base, Tajikistan.

According to Pakistan military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “2 x Combat Teams from Light Commando Battalion of Pakistan Army and 4 x Combat Teams from Tajikistan Special Forces participated in the exercise.”

In May this year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Tajikistan to attend the International High-Level Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation (ICGP).

During the visit, he also met with President Emomali Rahmon and reviewed bilateral ties in different areas, including political, trade, economy, energy, and defence.
