ISLAMABAD: Tajikistan has expressed interest in importing 100,000 tons of Pakistani meat, valued at over $50 million.
The deal was discussed during a high-level meeting in Islamabad between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain and Tajikistan’s Ambassador Yusuf Sharifzoda.
“Tajikistan intends to purchase 100,000 tons of meat from Pakistan, an import valued at over USD 50 million,” Ambassador Sharifzoda said, according to a statement by Pakistan’s food security ministry. The two sides also agreed to broaden cooperation in meat and livestock supply, as well as fresh fruits, vegetables, staple crops, agricultural research, pest management, and standards compliance.
Pakistan aims to expand agriculture-based exports, targeting regional markets for livestock and food commodities. Existing exports to Tajikistan, such as rice, citrus, and mangoes, remain modest compared to national production.
Both governments expect to finalise the supply agreement soon, potentially boosting bilateral food trade between Islamabad and Dushanbe.
