KARACHI: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is gearing up for a grand expansion as it heads into its 11th season next year. In a revealing conversation on the PSL Podcast, CEO Salman Naseer unveiled exciting plans to elevate the league’s reach, including the potential addition of two new teams and the expansion to six venues across the country.
With an eye on growing the league’s footprint, these changes are set to take the PSL to new heights, marking a fresh chapter in Pakistan’s premier cricket competition.
The 11th edition, scheduled to feature matches in six cities, will extend beyond the current four venues: Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. Naseer hinted at Peshawar’s Imran Khan Stadium and Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium as the potential new locations for PSL matches.
“We are very seriously considering expanding to six venues. This is something that has been discussed, and everyone, from management to franchises, is eager to increase the league’s footprint,” Naseer stated. “PSL 11 will feature matches across six cities, God willing,” he added.
The CEO also emphasised the importance of the “home and away” concept, where teams will play their home matches in their respective cities, although Quetta and Peshawar may face challenges in this regard.
While Peshawar’s Stadium requires some minor upgrades to meet international standards, Naseer is optimistic that it will be ready in time. “We’ve assessed the stadium and know what needs to be improved. We are confident that the venue will be ready for PSL 11,” he remarked.
In addition to the venue expansion, Naseer confirmed plans for two new teams, with the tender process expected to begin in November. “There is significant interest in new teams, and we are keen to explore these opportunities. We expect strong competition during the tender process,” Naseer said.
It is pertinent to note that the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2025 saw six teams competing across four venues: Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi.
