ISLAMABAD: Former captain and fast bowling sensation Wasim Akram believes that Babar Azam-led Pakistan is a strong contender to win the International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International World Cup 2023, to be played in India in October-November.
He said that Pakistan had a strong, fast bowling attack, possessing the quality to assist its team in lifting the coveted trophy. Pakistan’s captain is a great player, and the country has produced one of the best fast-bowling lineups in the world.

Akram further said that Shaheen Afridi is currently in tremendous form. He has led his side to victory in the PSL for the second time and is developing as a formidable all-rounder. Then there is Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Mohammad, while Ihsanullah is also an exciting young fast bowler.
He said that as the nature of wickets in India was largely batting-friendly, a team with strong bowling would eventually succeed in making it through.
