BRUSSELS: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar has emphasised Pakistan’s security outlook centered on maximising regional convergence and minimising divergences through dialogue, connectivity, and peaceful dispute resolution.
He was addressing the Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum Roundtable in Brussels on Friday.
Highlighting global challenges, Ishaq Dar warned of rising conflicts, foreign occupations, intensifying major power rivalries, a renewed global arms race, cyber and outer space weaponisation, and emerging destructive technologies.
He also noted economic and environmental pressures, including trade wars, food insecurity, inflation, economic inequalities, energy disruptions, and climate change impacts.

The Deputy Prime Minister called for leadership, dialogue, and collective action, urging renewed commitment to multilateralism, the UN Charter, and initiatives like China’s Global Governance Initiative.
Addressing regional tensions, Ishaq Dar criticised unilateral actions, including India’s move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, terming it a serious threat to regional stability. He stressed that water should be a tool for cooperation rather than a political weapon.
On Kashmir, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance that lasting peace in South Asia requires a just and peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Regarding Afghanistan, Ishaq Dar stated that a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan is central to Pakistan’s regional outlook, urging the Taliban authorities to act responsibly, honor commitments, and eliminate terrorist elements operating from their territory.
