KARACHI, Pakistan: Pakistan’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed is set to tie the knot today (Saturday) in Karachi, marking the start of a new chapter off the cricket field. The 27-year-old cricketer’s valima (reception) is scheduled for October 6, according to local media reports, citing family sources.

The wedding celebrations began on Friday night with a lively mehndi ceremony, attended by Abrar’s close friends and family members.

Images and videos from the event went viral on social media, showing the cricketer dressed in a green shalwar kameez and enjoying the festivities.

According to family sources cited by local media, Abrar’s nikah (marriage contract) had already taken place earlier, with only the rukhsati (departure ceremony) pending. The marriage was reportedly arranged with mutual consent between both families.

Bride and ceremony details

While details about the bride have not been officially disclosed, TelecomAsia.net reported that Abrar’s wedding follows traditional Pathan customs and that his bride’s name is Amna Rahim. The wedding brings together two families with a longstanding bond.

Guests from cricketing fraternity

A number of Pakistan’s top cricketers are expected to attend the valima reception in Karachi, including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, and Salman Ali Agha.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is also expected to be among the guests, according to local media.

Rising star in Pakistan cricket

Abrar Ahmed rose to prominence after making his Test debut against England in 2022, a landmark series that marked England’s return to Pakistan after 17 years.

Known for his deceptive variations and calm temperament, the right-arm leg-spinner quickly became a key figure in Pakistan’s Test bowling lineup.

He first appeared in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2017 for Karachi Kings before breaking into the national side.

Performances and sportsmanship

Abrar was one of Pakistan’s standout performers in the recent Asia Cup 2025, claiming six wickets in seven matches at an average of 23.83 with an economy rate of 5.36 — the best in the tournament.

His sportsmanship also caught global attention during Pakistan’s Super Four victory over Sri Lanka, when he shared a moment of mutual respect with Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga after the two mimicked each other’s wicket celebrations. The pair later hugged and laughed off the on-field rivalry, earning praise from fans worldwide.

Back to cricket after celebrations

Despite the wedding festivities, Abrar’s cricketing duties will soon resume. According to TelecomAsia.net, he is expected to rejoin the national squad for the upcoming Test series against South Africa, beginning on October 12 in Lahore.
