  • India remain firmly at the top of the ODI rankings, while West Indies climb to ninth

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan slipped from fourth to fifth in the ICC ODI rankings, now sitting with 3,465 points, after West Indies clinched a five-wicket win in the second match at Tarouba on Sunday, levelling the three-match series 1-1.

Sri Lanka’s recent surge lifted them above Pakistan into fourth place, while India, New Zealand, and Australia held the top three spots.

India continue to reign supreme atop the ODI chart with 4,471 points, while New Zealand and Australia follow in second and third places with 4,160 and 3,473 points respectively.

South Africa, Afghanistan, and West Indies complete the top ten, with West Indies inching up to ninth place, pushing Bangladesh down to tenth—a position that could raise alarm bells in Dhaka.

West Indies roar back

Sunday’s showdown in Tarouba was more than just a series-levelling win—it was a statement.

West Indies, facing Pakistan in a rain-curtailed 35-over game, chased down 181 with five wickets in hand and 10 balls to spare, powered by standout performances from Sherfane Rutherford and Roston Chase.

Despite early setbacks, courtesy of a fiery spell from Hasan Ali, who dismissed both openers cheaply, West Indies recovered in style. From 12-2 to victory, their journey was one of composure and counterattack.

Rutherford’s fire, Chase’s calm

Sherfane Rutherford turned the momentum with a blazing 45 off 33 balls, hammering 20 runs in one over off Abrar Ahmed, leaving Pakistan’s bowlers rattled. Captain Shai Hope contributed a steady 32, while Chase held firm with a match-winning 49 not out.

The chase had its stumbles- Carty, Hope, and Rutherford all fell in quick succession – but the 73-run stand between Chase and Justin Greaves (26 off 31) sealed the deal in 33.2 overs.

Pakistan’s batting falters again

Earlier, Pakistan’s batting order struggled once more, failing to fire under overcast skies and against tight West Indian bowling.

After a cautious start, they slipped to 88-4 in 22 overs, with Babar Azam falling for a duck to Jayden Seales.

Only Hussain Talat (31 off 32) and Hasan Nawaz (36 off 30)* offered any late resistance. Pakistan finished with a modest but defendable total, thanks largely to Nawaz’s clean hitting at the death.

Seales was the standout with the ball, bagging 3/23, while Chase, Motie, Shamar Joseph, and Jediah Blades each claimed a wicket.
