Pakistan Showcases Mining Potential at Minerals Forum in Riyadh

RIYADH: Pakistan’s Energy Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has highlighted the country’s vast potential in the energy and minerals sectors at the Future Minerals Forum in Saudi Arabia, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to attract investment, strengthening regional cooperation, and unlocking sustainable development opportunities.

On the sidelines of the event, Pakistan’s Energy Minister also met with Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy.

The two leaders discussed avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation across the energy sector, including petroleum supply, renewable energy, energy efficiency initiatives, and potential investment opportunities.

Ali Pervaiz Malik had a meeting with Engr. Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Investment of Saudi Arabia, to discuss enhancing investment flows and facilitating partnerships in Pakistan’s energy and minerals sectors.

He also met with Jassim Alshirawi, Secretary General, International Energy Forum, Sami Takaluoma, CEO, Metso Corporation, the Chairman of Delta Oil, Badr Al-Aiban, Eng. Saad Alkhalb, CEO, Saudi EXIM Bank.

During a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, he discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in the mining and minerals sector.

The Minister took part in a prominent ministerial panel titled “Dawn of a Global Cause: The Role of Governments in Driving Mineral Supply.”

During the discussion, Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government is actively easing systemic bottlenecks by streamlining regulations and aligning the legal and policy framework governing the minerals sector.

He added that Pakistan holds vast and diverse mineral resources, presenting substantial opportunities for international partnerships.

Panel participants acknowledged Pakistan’s rising profile, describing it as an emerging and increasingly attractive destination for mineral investment.

Moderator Eleni Giokos observed that, given Pakistan’s immense potential, the global community appears to be “knocking at Pakistan’s door to secure minerals,” underscoring growing international interest.

The minister formally invited global stakeholders to attend the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, scheduled for April 2026, presenting it as a major platform for investment, collaboration, and policy engagement.

Pakistan’s presence at the Future Minerals Forum was further reinforced through its dedicated pavilion, titled “Pakistan – The Mineral Marvel.”

The pavilion showcased live demonstrations of the National Minerals Data Centre (NMDC), a cutting-edge digital platform at the heart of Pakistan’s efforts to modernize its minerals sector.

Visitors interacted with advanced exhibits featuring 3D geological modeling, high-resolution GIS mapping, and real-time data visualization highlighting Pakistan’s mineral-rich regions.

In addition, Pakistan hosted a 90-minute country showcase session on its mineral resources, which attracted a full house and strong interest from international delegates.

Pakistan organised a minerals summit in April 2025, which saw participation from major international companies, including the Canada-based Barrick Gold and officials from the US, Saudi Arabia, China, Türkiye, UK, Azerbaijan and other nations.
