Pakistan Short Term Inflation Goes up 0.44%

ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), reordered an increase of 0.44 percent for the combined consumption groups during the week concluded on October 03, reported Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

According to the data of PBS, the SPI for the week under review in the above-mentioned group stood at 319.17 points as compared to 317.76 points during the last week.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined consumption group in the week under review increased to 13.18 percent.

The weekly SPI with the base year 2015-16 =100 covers 17 urban centres and 51 basic items for all expenditure groups.

Likewise, SPI for the lowest consumption group of up to Rs 17,732 registered an increase of 0.68 percent and went up to 313.20 points from last week’s 311.09 points.

The SPI for consumption groups of Rs 17,732 to 22,888; Rs 22,889-29,517; Rs 29,518-44,175 and above Rs 44,175, went up by 0.63 percent, 0.53 percent, 0.49 percent and 0.36 percent respectively.

During the week, out of 51 commodities, prices of 21 (41.18%) items increased, 10 (19.61%) items went down and 20 (39.21%) items remained stable.

The items, which witnessed a major decrease in their average prices on a week-on-week basis included eggs (1.45%), diesel (1.32%), sugar (1.39%), bananas (1.29%), petrol (0.81), potatoes (1.08%), pulse mash (0.80%), rice basmati broken (0.53%), gur (0.59 %), and pulse masoor (0.38%).

The things which saw major increase in their average prices on week-on-week basis included tomatoes (18.51%), onions (5.89%), wheat flour (3.63%), chicken (3.72%), garlic (2.47%), LPG (0.98%), match box (0.97%), pulse gram (1.41%), pulse moong (0.92%), firewood (0.51%), mustard oil (0.58%), and cigarettes (0.10%).

On-year basis, the items that recorded decrease included wheat flour (35.67%), diesel (22.48%), chilies powder (20.00%), petrol (23.51%), electricity charges for q1 (13.47%), cooking oil 5 litre (10.74%), sugar (12.65%), rice basmati broken (10.34%), vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (6.04%), pulse masoor (7.90%), gur (5.66%) and LPG (3.94%).

The commodities which witnessed an increase in their average prices on year-on-year basis included gas charges for Q1 (570.00%), onions (43.49%), pulse gram (65.33%), tomatoes (41.58%), powdered milk (25.36%), chicken (24.90%), beef (24.97%), shirting (20.17%), salt powder (15.38%), pulse moong (16.29%), georgette (13.81%) and energy saver (12.87%).
