Pakistan Seeks Broader Etisalat Group Investment in Key Economic Sectors

PM Shehbaz says that UAE companies have long been investing in Pakistan’s economy.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday invited the Etisalat Group to further expand its investments in various key sectors of the country’s economy, assuring that the government would provide all necessary facilities in this regard.

The Prime Minister met with a five-member delegation of the Emirati telecommunications company Etisalat Group, led by its Chief Executive Officer Hatem Dowidar, that called on him, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The Prime Minister observed that the longstanding relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan were based on shared culture, brotherhood, and religious values.

The UAE companies had been investing in the economy of Pakistan for quite a long time, he added.

The prime minister further reiterated that the provision of a business-friendly environment and the creation of investment opportunities for all foreign investor companies, including the Emirati ones, were among the government’s top priorities.

Etisalat Chief Executive Officer Hatem Dowidar praised the prime minister for the current investment-friendly policies of the government, which had created better business opportunities for international companies.

The Etisalat Group, he said, had been successfully investing in Pakistan for the past 19 years and was eager to expand its business and investment. “Over 10,000 Pakistanis are rendering valuable services in the company,” he said.

Hatem Dowinder further said that they were keen to make a long-term and successful investment in Pakistan in the future.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja and senior officials from the relevant institutions also attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, who also holds the portfolio of Foreign Minister, received a delegation from Etisalat Group, led by Group CEO Hatem Dowidar.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s growing digital economy and the government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment.

Hatem Dowidar appreciated the Government of Pakistan’s consistent support and reaffirmed Etisalat Group’s long-term commitment to the Pakistani market, expressing keen interest in contributing to its digital growth and connectivity goals.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, National Coordinator of the Special Investment Facilitation Council, secretaries of IT and Commerce, Privatisation, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
