ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces killed at least six terrorists in two separate intelligence-based operations in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military’s media wing said on Monday.
According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intelligence-based operation was conducted by security forces in North Waziristan district during which the troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location and eliminated five terrorists of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
It said that in another intelligence-based operation in the South Waziristan district, the troops killed the TTP ring leader Zabi Ullah, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces and target killing of innocent civilians and was wanted by the Law Enforcement Agencies.
“Sanitisation operation is being conducted to eliminate any other terrorist in the area as security forces remain determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country,” ISPR said.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks over the past year, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
In response, security forces have ramped up counterterrorism operations across the country.
In March, terrorist violence significantly increased, with over 100 reported attacks — the highest monthly figure since November 2014 — according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
Pakistan was also ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with terrorism-related fatalities increasing by 45 percent over the past year to 1,081.
President, PM applaud security forces
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have paid rich tribute to security forces for successful operations against terrorists in North and South Waziristan.
In their separate statements on Monday, they applauded the bravery of troops for killing the TTP terrorists.
The President and Prime Minister said the entire nation stands united alongside the security forces against terrorism.
