RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s security forces killed six Indian-sponsored terrorists while two soldiers were martyred during an intelligence-based counterterrorism operation in Dera Ismail Khan district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing said.

The counterterrorism operation was conducted in the Zarkani area of Dera Ismail Khan on October 24 following reports about the presence of terrorists belonging to the “Indian proxy, Fitna Al Khwarij”, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

“Owing to meticulous conduct of operation by security forces, six Indian-sponsored khwarij were sent to hell,” the ISPR said.

However, an intense exchange of fire also resulted in the martyrdom of 36-year-old Naik Ghulam Murtaza, a resident of Gujrat district, and 30-year-old Sepoy Taseer Ahmed, a resident of Talagang district, ISPR stated.

The ISPR said the two soldiers “fought gallantly, paid the ultimate sacrifices and embraced shahadat”.

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists, according to the military’s media wing.

ISPR said the terrorists had been actively involved in numerous attacks against security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as the killing of civilians.

A sanitisation operation was underway to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area, the statement added.

The ISPR said the counterterrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” vision, as approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, would continue “at full pace” to eliminate foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism.

“Such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further reinforce our unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation at all costs,” it added.

President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to the security forces for eliminating six Indian-sponsored terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan.

President Zardari paid homage to Naik Ghulam Murtaza and Sepoy Taseer Ahmed, who embraced martyrdom during the operation.

The President saluted the bravery, sense of duty, and supreme sacrifice of the martyrs who laid down their lives in defence of the motherland, according to a statement issued by the Presidency.

The President expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of the martyred soldiers.

The President paid tribute to the security forces for their persistent sacrifices and professional service toward ensuring the country’s peace and stability, as well as the protection of its people.

“The conspiracies of the terrorists’ foreign sponsors and their local facilitators will be thwarted at all costs,” the President asserted.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the security forces for a successful operation against Indian-sponsored terrorists in Dera Ismail Khan.

“Through a timely intervention, the security forces sent six terrorists to hell,” Naqvi said in a statement.
