Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Vow to Strengthen Defence Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to strengthen defence cooperation, with a particular focus on enhancing collaboration in the maritime sector.

The resolve was expressed during a meeting between Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and visiting Chief of the Naval Staff-Royal Saudi Naval Forces Vice Admiral, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Ghuraibi, who called on him in Islamabad on Monday.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the enduring and close brotherly ties between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, rooted in shared values, mutual trust, and a rich history of cooperation, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence.

The two sides reviewed matters of bilateral defence collaboration, particularly focusing on naval cooperation and regional maritime security.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening defence ties in the interest of peace and shared prosperity.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif lauded the longstanding strategic partnership between the armed forces of both nations, stressing the importance of enhancing interoperability through joint exercises, training exchanges, and continued dialogue.

The meeting concluded with a renewed emphasis on the longstanding and time-tested relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia—rooted in shared aspirations and a common vision for progress and development.

Earlier today, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the prestigious Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) on Vice Admiral Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Ghuraibi, Chief of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share strong military and historical bonds, especially in the defence and maritime sectors.

Over the years, both nations have carried out joint exercises, training programmes, and high-level visits to boost coordination.
