ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Thursday reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance their bilateral cooperation across all sectors.

The resolve was expressed during a phone conversation between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the foreign office said in a statement.

The two leaders reviewed the entire gamut of deep-rooted and fraternal ties between both countries. They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across all domains.

Views were also exchanged on current regional developments.

Tensions in South Asia have started to ease following a recent spike in clashes between India and Pakistan, which saw the exchange of missile, drone, and artillery strikes earlier this month.

The escalation drew serious concern from global powers and regional allies, including Saudi Arabia. Intense diplomatic efforts ultimately led to a ceasefire agreement between the two nuclear-armed nations, which took effect on May 10.

During the height of the conflict, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir, made a diplomatic visit to Pakistan. His trip was followed by a stop in New Delhi, where he held discussions with Indian officials in an effort to help defuse the situation.

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan share close diplomatic and strategic relations. The Kingdom has extended significant support to Pakistan during the prolonged economic challenges faced by Islamabad in recent years.

In March this year, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Saudi Arabia and held a meeting with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

They discussed bilateral relations, ways to boost cooperation in various fields, and the latest regional and international developments.

The Prime Minister and the Crown Prince reaffirmed their commitment to elevating Pakistan-Saudi Arabia partnership to new heights, guided by mutual respect, shared interests, and a common vision for progress and prosperity.
