ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and discussed the regional situation and recent developments.

According to a press release issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saudi Minister Prince Faisal appreciated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and security and emphasised the importance of collective efforts to ensure stability in the region.

Meanwhile, Deputy PM Dar expressed gratitude for the Kingdom’s continued support and reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to work closely with Saudi Arabia to further strengthen cooperation on regional and international matters.

Ceasefire along Pak-Afghan border

The conversation came a day after Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities announced a temporary ceasefire following several days of cross-border clashes.

Pakistan agreed to a 48-hour truce at the request of the Taliban authorities in Kabul after days of clashes along the border.

According to Pakistani security sources, the clashes began when Taliban fighters and allied terrorist groups launched unprovoked attacks on border security posts inside Pakistan.

Islamabad said its forces retaliated “with full force,” destroying several Taliban positions inside Afghanistan and killing several terrorists.

Deepening Saudi-Pakistan ties

On September 17, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia announced the signing of a landmark “Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement”, during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s state visit to Riyadh.

Under the defence pact, “any act of aggression against either country will be treated as an attack on both.” The pact aims to boost defence cooperation, strengthen joint deterrence, and deepen the historic partnership between the two nations.

Prime Minister Sharif was received by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh, where the two leaders led official talks alongside senior officials from both sides.

A joint statement issued after the meeting described the visit as a “significant step forward” in consolidating the Saudi-Pakistan relationship across defence, security, and economic domains.
