ISLAMABAD: The 8th session of Pakistan-Russia inter-governmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation commenced in Islamabad today (Wednesday).

Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs (EAD), while giving the opening remarks from Pakistan’s side, said that the session aims at reviewing the existing areas of cooperation and finding new opportunities for further deepening the relations between the two countries.
He said that enhancing economic trade and investment is a prime priority of Pakistan.
The Secretary EAD said that Pakistan was severely impacted by last year’s devastating floods. He appreciated the support of the international community during recent floods.
He also thanked the Russian government for its continuous support during this time of crisis.
Israfil Ali-Zade, Deputy Director of the Department of Ministry of Economic Development of Russian Federation, said that Russia values its relations with Pakistan.

He said, “there is great potential between both economies that needs to be explored further.”
The high-level Russian delegation, comprised of around 80 members including the minister for Energy, N G shulginov, arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday. The members of the Russian delegation are also expected to call on Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and other government officials.
