ISLAMABAD: In an important development, Pakistan and Russia on Thursday signed a road transport agreement to pave way for enhancing bilateral commercial and public ties.

Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev called on Federal Minister for Communications and Postal Services Maulana Asad Mahmood here in Islamabad. The agreement was signed during the meeting.

The Russian Transport Minister said that “This agreement will pave way for establishing commercial and public relations between the two countries. The agreement will provide a framework for the movement of passengers and goods trade between the two countries,” he said.

He said that the agreement would make travel and delivery of goods easy between the two countries.  “Pakistan exports fruits, garments, surgical instruments, leather and agricultural products to Russia. On the other hand, Russia is the fourth largest LNG exporting country in the world and has offered to sell LNG to Pakistan at a lower price than other countries,” Vitaly Savelyev added.

Agreement Allows Pakistan and Russia Transport Operation by Road Permits

Under the agreement, transport operations would be carried out by road transport permits and they will be provided free of cost by the authorities on both sides.

It was agreed to form a joint working group for the purpose of streamlining the operational rules and regulations and to examine issues in the way of implementation. – APP
