ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has successfully retained its status as a Fifth-Generation (G5) regulator under the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regulatory Benchmarking Framework, securing an overall score of 75.77 in the 2025 assessment.
This marks a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its telecommunications regulatory framework and enhance its global standing, a press release issued by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said on Tuesday.
The PTA said Pakistan first entered the G5 category in 2021 with a score of 58.64, which improved to 68.36 in 2023.
The 2025 result reflects consistent progress across regulatory reforms, spectrum management, competition policies, and alignment with international digital standards.
The country continues to fall within the “Advanced” regulatory maturity range (60–80) and is steadily approaching the “Leading” tier (80–100).
This recognition reinforces Pakistan’s credibility in international telecommunications forums and strengthens its role in shaping global regulatory processes.
The ITU G5 Regulatory Benchmark assesses member states on regulatory performance in areas including spectrum allocation, licensing, competition frameworks, consumer protection, and digital policy integration.
PTA coordinates national efforts to meet ITU standards, implementing reforms to improve transparency, efficiency, and technological readiness in line with international best practices.
Pakistan’s continuous upward trajectory demonstrates effective policy execution, stakeholder engagement, and alignment with global telecommunication trends.
