NEW YORK: Pakistan bowled out India for only 119 runs in 19 overs in the high-voltage ICC T20I World Cup 2024 match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Pakistan started with a cheeky start with dropped catches and poor fielding. However, it made early progress in the match against archrivals India, routing out the opening pair Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Naseem soon after struck again as he bowled out Axar Patel for 18 out of 20 balls. India were 89-4 when Mohammad Amir sent Suryakumar Yadav back to the pavilion for 8 off seven balls.
Later Shivam Dube returned back to the dressing room with just three runs in his bag.
Amir eyed for a hat-trick with the fall of the seventh wicket of Ravindra Jadeja 0-1, after the dismissal of Rishabh Pant for 42 off 31. Eventually, India were bowled out for a mere 119.
On a normal pitch, this is a below-par score but the wicket at the Nassau County International Stadium is not easy to bat. The ball is holding into the pitch and there is plenty of movement for the pacers. However, 119 is still not a winning total here.
India have a good bowling attack but they only have three fast bowlers to go along with Hardik Pandya. India would have loved to have an extra pacer but they only picked three in the squad.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first against India. The toss was delayed because of the rain and wet outfield in New York.
The match, dubbed the “mother of all clashes,” is vital for both teams. Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, is desperate for a win following a shocking loss to the United States in their tournament opener. India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, will secure a spot in the Super 8 with a victory, having already defeated Ireland in their first match.
