Sports Report

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday announced the restoration of the departmental cricket structure, which had been dysfunctional due to the implementation of the 2019 constitution.

Departmental cricket was banned in 2019 under the then patron-in-chief of PCB, Imran Khan, leaving thousands of officials and players jobless.

Talking to the media, newly appointed PCB chairman Najam Sethi said that the contracts of 192 domestic players had been restored. At the same time, the association’s heads have also been informed and invited to the High-Performance Center (HPC).

Role of departmental cricket

It is worth mentioning here that departmental cricket, which has played a pivotal role in promoting cricket in Pakistan for the last 45 years, ended with Imran Khan’s approval in 2019.

According to the new domestic cricket structure, only six teams are eligible to play First Class Cricket in Pakistan, two from Punjab and one each from Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh provinces, and the federal territory.
