PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Tensions flared along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border as Afghan forces initiated unprovoked aggression, prompting a strong retaliatory response from the Pakistan Army. According to security sources, dozens of Afghan military posts and camps were destroyed, with reports of multiple Afghan soldiers and foreign fighters killed. The Pakistan Army reportedly took control of 19 posts during the exchange.
The Afghan forces’ alleged objective was to facilitate the cross-border movement of extremist groups, but Pakistani troops thwarted the attempt through the effective use of artillery, infantry, and drones.
Key militant centres — including Kharcher Fort and the Manojaba Battalion Headquarters, identified as hubs of the Fitna Al Khawarij (militants) network — were completely destroyed. The Durani Camp, believed to be a launching pad for terrorists, was also eliminated.
Death of Afghan soldiers, terrorists
Reports suggest that around 50 Afghan soldiers and foreign militants were killed in the operation. Afghan positions in Paramcha Sector, including Shaheedan Post, Doran Mela, and Turkmanzai Camps, were targeted and destroyed.
Further strikes were carried out on Leuband Fort, Qila Abdullah, and Kharlachi Sector, where multiple Afghan posts came under fire. A video of the destruction of Jandosar Post has also surfaced online.
Following the heavy losses, Afghan forces and militants reportedly fled, abandoning their weapons and posts in disarray. In a symbolic gesture, Pakistani troops raised the national flag over a captured Afghan post at Angoor Adda.
Several Afghan soldiers have reportedly surrendered, as panic and confusion spread among Afghan and militant ranks after the decisive Pakistani counter-offensive.
Pakistan Army carried out a strong retaliatory response after Afghan forces on Saturday night opened unprovoked fire across multiple locations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, security sources said, escalating tensions between the two neighbouring countries.
According to the security sources, Afghan forces initiated firing on Pakistani territory targeting security posts and civilian areas in Angoor Adda, Bajaur, and Kurram, with similar incidents reported in Dir, Chitral border areas, and Baramcha in Balochistan.
After Pakistan’s devastating response, Afghan forces were thrown into panic and reportedly requested Pakistan to stop its heavy retaliatory action.
The Afghan forces’ firing was aimed at helping terrorist formations cross the border into Pakistan, according to security sources. Sources stated that Pakistan Army’s alert border posts responded with full force, engaging the attacking positions effectively.

“Pakistan’s timely and powerful response destroyed several Afghan border posts and inflicted significant casualties on Afghan troops and terrorists of Fitna Al-Khawarij (a term used for the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan),” security sources said.
Afghan forces in retreat
Pakistani forces destroyed an Afghan post in a “decisive and effective” retaliatory action after cross-border clashes intensified in the border areas of Kurram.

According to security sources, unprovoked firing from the Afghan side triggered a strong response from Pakistan, with artillery, tanks, and both light and heavy weapons used in the operation.
The sources said Pakistan also targeted camps and hideouts of Khawarij and Daesh inside Afghanistan with precision strikes. “Several Afghan posts and militant formations suffered heavy losses,” they added.
Jet aircraft and drones were also deployed to hit terrorist positions. Loud explosions were heard in multiple locations near the border as Pakistani jets carried out operations against militant targets.
Reports from Teri Mangal, Piewar, and Goi areas in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said Afghan forces targeted civilian-populated areas, causing panic among local residents who remained confined to their homes.
Security officials confirmed that “Afghan forces have retreated from several areas” following Pakistan’s powerful counter-attack, and the operation against militant hideouts is ongoing.

Security sources added that Taliban forces were seen abandoning their positions and leaving behind several bodies before fleeing the area. “Our forces remain on high alert, and the situation is under close monitoring,” a senior security source said.
Security sources noted that Afghanistan’s aggression coincided with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to India, calling it a “notable and concerning development.”

“This aggression along the border is a notable and concerning development occurring in parallel with Kabul’s political engagement with India,” one security source said.
Tribes rise in arms
Meanwhile, tribal people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s border areas have announced their decision to take up arms against Afghanistan-backed terrorists.
In an audio message circulated in Pashto, tribal elders said they stand “shoulder to shoulder” with the Pakistan Army against Afghan militants.
“Defending our homeland is our duty, and we know how to do it. We have taught these terrorists a lesson before and will do it again,” the tribal representatives said.
Saudi Arabia expresses concern
Saudi Arabia has voiced concern over the growing tensions and border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is following with concern the tensions and clashes taking place in the border areas between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the State of Afghanistan,” the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued in the Arabic language.
A statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday stated that the Kingdom urges both countries to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritise dialogue and wisdom to reduce tensions and to maintain regional peace and stability.
“The Kingdom calls on both sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritise dialogue and wisdom in order to reduce tensions and maintain the security and stability of the region,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry stated.
“The Kingdom also reaffirms its support for all regional and international efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and development, and its consistent commitment to fostering security and prosperity for the brotherly peoples of Pakistan and Afghanistan,” the statement added.

Iran, Qatar call for restraint
Iranian top diplomat Abbas Araghchi called on Afghanistan and Pakistan “to exercise restraint” amid ongoing clashes.
“Our position is that both sides must exercise restraint,” Araghchi said during a live interview with state television, adding that “stability” between the countries “contributes to regional stability”.
Qatar’s foreign ministry urged both sides to prioritise dialogue, diplomacy, and restraint, and to work towards containing differences in a manner that helps to reduce tension and avoid escalation, in order to achieve regional security and stability.
The foreign ministry reiterated Qatar’s support for all regional and international efforts aimed at strengthening international peace and security, and affirmed its commitment to ensuring security and prosperity for the people of the two countries.

Terrorist Elements in Afghanistan
Earlier on Saturday, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs lodged a strong protest over the India-Afghanistan Joint Statement and rejected remarks by Muttaqi describing terrorism as Pakistan’s “internal problem.”
In a statement, the Foreign Office said Pakistan has repeatedly provided evidence of terrorist elements operating from Afghan soil against Pakistan with support from groups such as Fitna-e-Khawarij (TTP) and Fitna-e-Hindustan (BLA).
“By deflecting the responsibility of controlling terrorism towards Pakistan, the Interim Afghan Government cannot absolve itself of its obligations to ensure peace and stability in the region,” the statement read.
Pakistan Urges Kabul to Prevent Cross-Border Attacks
Reiterating its stance, Pakistan urged the Afghan authorities to take concrete measures to stop their territory from being used by militant groups targeting Pakistan.
“The Government of Pakistan has the responsibility to take all possible measures for the safety and security of its people,” the Foreign Office said, adding that it expected the Interim Afghan Government “to play its due role by preventing its territory from being used by Fitna-e-Khawarij and Fitna-e-Hindustan terrorist elements against Pakistan.”
