ISLAMABAD: A delegation of Executive Directors and Alternate Executive Directors from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) met with Pakistan’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Ahad Khan Cheema, in Islamabad.
The delegation is visiting from October 6 to 12 for consultations with the government and key stakeholders to align ADB’s support with the country’s priorities.
During the meeting, Minister Cheema emphasized the strong partnership between Pakistan and ADB, a bond reaffirmed during the recent visit of ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa.
He outlined the government’s commitment to a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability and fostering sustainable growth. Key reform areas discussed included the digitization of the tax system to boost revenue generation, improvements in the energy sector, and the restructuring of state-owned enterprises.
The Minister also outlined Pakistan’s priorities for ADB support in critical sectors, including climate action, infrastructure development, and social uplift. The visiting delegation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the government’s agenda for implementing structural reforms, generating fiscal space, and stabilizing the economy.
This visit underscores the robust collaboration between ADB and Pakistan, focusing on achieving sustainable development goals and enhancing economic stability. The delegation also visited the Benazir Income Support Programme’s One Window Center in G-7, Islamabad, where they reviewed its operations and commended the efficient services provided to women beneficiaries.
