Pakistan Reports Sharp Rise in Covid Infections with 129 New Cases

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported a substantial increase in Covid-19 infections, recording 129 new cases in last 24 hours (Wednesday); however, there were no fatalities, according to data released by the National Institute of Health (NIH) on Thursday.

The country’s death toll stayed constant at 30,645 while the overall number of illnesses increased to 1,577,913, according to NIH data.

4,332 tests were performed countrywide during last 24 hours (Wednesday), with a positivity rate of 2.98%. 14 of those affected were in critical condition.

Lahore reports highest number of infections

The details showed that Lahore reported the highest number of new infections, that is, 43 with an 8.22% positivity ratio, with 523 tests conducted in the city.

Islamabad also saw a sharp rise in Covid cases and reported 14 new cases during the last 24 hours with a ratio of 4.20 percent, out of a total of 333 tests conducted in the city.
